Tornado's dining train

Apologies for the lack of updates lately. A house move has kept me busy away from this site. Thankfully though a Tornado has brought me back.

Now, as some of you may know, up until a year ago my local line was the Nene Valley Railway. It was at this railway where my love for steam really developed. The '94 visit of Flying Scotsman still really sticks in the memory.

These memories still prompt me to get back for the main events whenever I can, such as last years big gala 'East Meets West'

This Easter prompted the railway to get an engine that hasn't visited before. They went for the biggest and most famous engine available in new build A1 'Tornado'. But they didn't stop there.

The weekend started on Friday with a series of Driver Experiences on the iconic engine. On Saturday the pacific performed a full service followed by a sell out dining train that I happened to have tickets for.

Wine, ales, and good food were all served by a team of hearty volunteers who said it was the biggest diner they had done, but you wouldn't have known it from the quality of service they gave. We had the luxury of good company and warm coach. You really can't beat steam heating!

Move on to Sunday and another full service was performed by A1 and then, at the time of writing, on Monday the club car will be in service to offer cream teas on the train.

A big thanks must go the team at Wansford and the NVR. Its always a pleasure to go back and see the developments. There are always smiles a plenty helping to create that fantastic atmosphere.
